Carrie was afraid of what she was going to do, but she wasrelieved to know that this condition was ending. They would notcare. Hanson particularly would be glad when she went. He wouldnot care what became of her.
Hurstwood put his hands, red from cold, down in his pockets.Tears came into his eyes.
"Well, I have an engagement with a friend upstairs. I'll leaveyou. So long."
